The Acropolis, general view of the Parthenon. 1930. Vintage brown-toned gelatin silver print, mounted to board. 21,6 x 15,7 cm. Signed by the photographer in ink in lower right on the mount. Mounted in mat.

The Greek photographer Elli Souyoultzoglou, who worked under the name Nelly, trained in Dresden under Hugo Erfurth and Franz Fiedler. She returned to Athens in 1924 and, in 1925, began photographing Greek refugees from Asia Minor. In 1926, she exhibited bromoil prints from this series in her studio under the title “The Sorrows of the Refugees.” She also produced numerous images of the Acropolis and the Parthenon.
