An die Ärztin, Sexualwissenschaftlerin und Schriftstellerin Charlotte Wolff (1897-1986), die in diesem Jahr aus Deutschland emigrieren musste. Sie hatte Virginia Woolf wohl das deutsche Typoskript ihres Buches über Chirologie gesandt, das dann unter dem Titel "Studies in Handreading" 1936 in London bei Chatto & Windus erschien. Anscheinend hatte Charlotte einen Handabdruck von Virginia erhalten und daraus Charakterzüge abgeleitet. Virginia bedankt sich und äußert einige Gedanken zu dem Text. "... Many thanks for sending me the German typescript of your notes. I had to send it to a friend to translate, and she has only just sent it back ... As far as I can follow it, I think it is very interesting, though how much truth there is in it I cannot say. As a writer one meets with so much criticism that one comes to accept a version of oneself without verifying it. Your character certainly correspondends with that which is usually given me by literary critics; and I think it very remarkable as you had so little opportunity of knowing me. I should like to see the English translation, before you publish it; but I do not see any objection to your publishing this ...". - Faltenriss an der rechten Seite. - Selten.
