Walking Path with Footprints in Snow. 1938. Vintage gelatin silver print. 33,8 x 24,6 cm (53,3 x 35,8 cm). Mounted to board (corners slightly damaged from previous mounting), signed in pencil below the image on the mount as well as annotated in pencil on the verso.

Margaret Bourke-White, best known for her pioneering work in photojournalism and industrial photography, had a remarkable ability to blend narrative and formal composition across various subjects. Her 1930 Fortune magazine article, “Paper & Power,” featuring images of industrial paper production, exemplifies her early interest in documenting technology and human labor. Even in landscapes, like this winter scene, she applied a structured, cinematic approach, using visual elements to evoke movement and human presence, reflecting her ongoing exploration of the relationship between people, industry, and their environments. – Some light oxidation along edges of print, otherwise in near excellent condition.
