In this image of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, Mitch Epstein adopts a restrained, contemplative approach, capturing the monument in soft, diffuse light that flattens detail and emphasizes tonal subtlety. Eschewing spectacle, he presents the structure as suspended in time - centered yet unmonumentalized - amid an empty, low-horizon landscape.
