Born in Germany, Henry Ries emigrated to the United States as a young man, where he volunteered for service during World War II and served as a photographer in the Army Air Forces. Following the war, he became editor and chief photographer for the OMGUS Observer, an American weekly published in Berlin. He later worked as a European photojournalist for The New York Times and Time magazine, documenting postwar Europe with a keen eye for historical and cultural change. – A few light surface scratches, several handling dents, corners bumped, some edge wear in left edge, crease in upper right corner, otherwise in good condition.
