New York. 1984. 2 vintage gelatin silver prints on Agfa paper. Each 24 x 30,8 cm. Titled and dated in felt-tip pen as well as photographer's copyright stamp on the verso.
Wilfried Bauer was one of Germany’s most recognized reportage photographers. From 1964-1968, he worked as an assistant to Robert Häusser. As of 1969, he regularly contributed to the German newspaper Die Zeit. From 1976 onward, he worked as a freelance photographer for major publications including Stern, Der Spiegel, and FAZ-Magazin. In his later years, Bauer received fewer commissions and struggled with depression. In a final, tragic act, he destroyed his photographic archive in December 2005 before taking his own life. – Some light pressure marks and minimal buckling along the edges of both prints; a small dent and stain in the margin of one print, otherwise both in near excellent condition.
