Between 1964-1966, the German photographer Günter R. Reitz documented the salvage of the Abu Simbel Temple in Egypt. The twin statues of Abu Simbel were rescued from the rising waters of the Nile, during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Abu Simbel was originally carved during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The rescue of the temples began in 1964, the entire site was cut into large blocks, dismantled and reassembled in a new location. – Corners bumped, some creases in corners and edges, otherwise in good condition.
