Detlef Orlopp's body of photographic work is dedicated to the vivid diversity of landscapes and faces. In the mid-1950s, Orlopp studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Saarbrücken under Otto Steinert. Initially, the experimental methods and artistic concepts of the initiator of “Subjective Photography” greatly influenced him. However, Orlopp soon began to develop his own approach, transforming the surface of the landscape into a constructed and reduced image, without losing sight of the object. Mountain formations, icebergs and water surfaces, but also faces, are the recurring motifs in his work. From 1961-2000 he taught as a professor at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld. – Creases in upper left, some handling marks/dents, small crease in lower right corner with small emulsion loss, otherwise in good condition.
