Some of the photos in this group document important turning points in 20th century Chinese history, such as Zhou Enlai with the Red Guards or the huge mourning rally on the occasion of Zhou's death in 1976 in Tiananmen Square, which was the cause of the so-called "Tiananmen Incident". Another picture shows the new party chairman Hua Guofeng during his 1977 tour of Europe in Romania or Yugoslavia, omitting the Soviet Union. Also included are two images of the modern Beijing Opera. – Some with stronger traces of use/ creases, edges curled, otherwise several in good condition.

Theodor Rehbock (born in Holland) became one of the most important German hydraulic engineers of his time. Due to the colonial wars against the Herero in Nama Rehbock could not carry out his projects in Namibia.The images offered in this publication were taken by Rehbock before the Herero uprising. – In very good condition.
Bernauer Straße. 1962/printed later. Gelatin silver print. 29,4 x 29 cm. Mounted to board, titled by the photographer in pencil below the image on the mount; signed by the photographer in pencil and annotated in another hand on mount verso.
A fine tonal print in excellent condition.

Benedict Joseph Fernandez III was an American educator as well as a journalistic and documentary street photographer. He is noted for photographing the protest movements of the 1960s, particularly those of the civil rights movement and the anti-Vietnam War movement. – Minimally buckled in upper and lower edges, otherwise a strong print in excellent condition.
New York City. 1970/printed later. Gelatin silver print. 22 x 32,5 cm (28 x 35,4 cm). Signed, titled and dated by the photographer in pencil and photographer's stamp on the verso.

Although "Metropolis" did not enjoy the expected success during its premiere, audiences were impressed with the technical tricks and visual effects, which remain an iconic element of cinematography today. This scene shows the still intact "Heart Machine" of the worker's city just before the masses begin to storm it. – Some handling creases in margins, a few light handling marks, corners bumped, slight oxidation mirroring in edges, otherwise in very good condition.
