A large part of this group shows the processions of the Durbar of 1903 in Delhi. A small group of twelve shows sights of Benares (Sunbeam Tours Ltd.). Also includes some British genre scenes. – A few slightly faded or with spots, otherwise most in very good condition.

Private souvenir album of Constantinople. Circa 1900. 96 vintage collodion paper (most) and gelatin prints. Each circa 9 x 12 cm. Some titled in the negative in lower edge, inserted in album pages (some foxing), annotated in German in ink below images on album pages and bound in brown canvas album (edges slightly rubbed) with gilt-embossed title Kodak Souvenirs.

This private album shows many harbor scenes with ships, busy street scenes, architecture and people of Constantinople most likely compiled by a German living in the city. – Some photos slightly buckled, some faded, some handling creases, otherwise several in good condition.

Photographer: August Sachtler (c. 1839-1873). Dayak house with skull trophies, Borneo. 1870s. Albumen print. 21,5 x 27,5 cm. Mounted to board, annotated in pencil on mount verso.

Among the ethnic groups of the Sarawak area in northwestern Borneo, the Dayaks were the best known. These groups practiced headhunting, which is why they attracted the interest of ethnologists early on. The skulls of killed enemies were considered trophies and status symbols, which were gladly presented in public, as seen in the photo offered here. A print of this image is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. – A few light surface scuff marks, some fading, otherwise in good condition.
