This discovery ignited his passion for photography, leading to a remarkable body of work that captures the essence of Indian culture and the evolving landscapes of the country. Today, Singh holds a prominent place in the history of early color photography, alongside celebrated photographers like William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Joel Sternfeld, and Joel Meyerowitz. He has published more than fourteen books on India and received numerous international awards.
