Nan Goldin's work explores themes surrounding the LGBT community, intimacy, the HIV crisis, and the opioid epidemic. Her seminal work, "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency" (1986), which includes this image, serves as a poignant documentation of post-Stonewall gay subculture, intertwined with intimate portrayals of Goldin's family and friends.
