The images show the Indians in their traditonal costumes including an Indian chief of the Colville with his wife, a young Buck with a flute in Hereditary robes, a mother and child of the Nez Percé tribe and a fortune teller. – Strong tonal prints in very good condition.

West portal of the Frauenkirche in Nuremberg. Circa 1854. Large-format albumen print from a paper negative. 32 x 26 cm. Mounted to original board (slightly soiled, some traces of use), photographer's blindstamp, which is stamped over by the publisher H.(einrich) Schrag in lower right corner on the mount.

Oppenheim was one of the first German photographers to work with the calotype process. He learned the process with Gustave Le Gray and already used it in 1852 while in Spain. One year later he photographed the Acropolis and as of 1854 he worked in southern Germany. Oppenheim's photographic oeuvre is very small and only a few photographs have survived - very rare! – Minimal fading in edges, otherwise in very good condition with strong tones.

Attractive portrait album showing a wide range of people living in the Ottoman Empire. 1860s-1880s. 103 cartes-de-visite albumen prints, all with early photographer's logo (some hand-stamped), address and name and most titled and numbered in ink in contemporary hand on mount verso, inserted in album window mat boards (some damaged, slightly soiled), bound in contemporary tooled leather album (rubbed) with brass and glass ornaments (some missing) and brass clasp.

This extensive collection of cartes-de-visite portraits documents the vast cultural and ethnic diversity in the Ottoman Empire. 64 cartes-de-visite show various peoples of the Empire. Among them are Afghan, Algerian, Georgian, Greek, Persian, Turkish and Jewish people. Also includes a wide range of street sellers with their goods, beggars, warriors, Orthodox priests and other high-ranking persons such as Kececizade Mehmed Fuad Pasha (1814-1869). – Some faded, some light scuff marks, otherwise most in very good condition.

Commemorative portrait album. June 22, 1855. 16 salt prints. Each circa 17 x 13 cm. Each mounted in ornamental paper mat and bound in gilt-edged contemporary brown full leather gilt-tooled album with gilt-stamped caption Unserem Theuren Vater zum 22. Juni 1855 (edges minimally rubbed, spine loose from cover) on front cover, with silk fly leaves/endpapers.

The sitters in this album apparently belonged to a wealthy family (many are annotated in pencil on verso with sitters' names). This is also indicated by the album's opulence and the very fine portraits, which are unusually large for this time. – Some leaves loose, some photos breaking out of paper mat in areas. On the whole rich beautiful salt prints, many highlighted and finely overpainted by hand, most in near excellent condition in a well preserved album. Rare in this quality and condition.

Schaarwächter already learned his trade from his father, as well as at the Gewerbeakademie with Hermann Vogel in Berlin. Since 1889, he held the title of "Hofphotograph seiner Majestät des Kaisers und Königs und Ihre Königlichen Hoheit der Frau Erbprinzessin von Sachsen-Meinigen, Prinzessin von Preußen". During the 1880s/90s, he was the most successful portrait photographer in Berlin. – In very good condition.

Presumably inspired by the architectural drawings and etchings of the Nuremberg priest Christoph Jacob Wilder, Georg Schmidt began training at the Nuremberg Art School between 1828-1831 and he completed his schooling at the Munich Art Academy. From 1839 he settled in Nuremberg as an art and portrait painter. In 1846 he also set up a photographic studio and as of 1852 he referred to himself only as a photographer. The atmospheric salt paper prints by Georg Schmidt offered here and in the following two lots 4060-4061 are therefore among the earliest photographic city views of Nuremberg and are very rare today. – Fading in edges, otherwise in good condition.

This extensive collection of views of Siam mostly shows temples, pagodas, gardens in and around Bangkok, the Royal district and other architectural structures, such as the Wat Suthat, Wat Phrah Prang Luang, Wat Phra Keo, Stupa of Nakhon Pathom, Nat Cheng courtyard, Buddha gallery at Wat Poh, Chinese cabinet in Wat Suthat, view of the Khlong Bang Luang and parts of the King's Palace. Also includes images of the Royal Barges, one image of ceremonial Siamese dancers and a group of Siamese youths. – Some corners bumped, some with time-staining in edges, some with slight nicks in edges, otherwise in good to very good condition with strong contrasts.

The Tairraz family of Chamonix produced several generations of Alpine photographers. In 1857 Joseph Tairraz began taking daguerrotypes and took the first photographs at the summit of Mont Blanc in 1860. He provided tourists and mountaineers with souvenir portraits and mountain views. His son Georges, who was an apprentice to Pierre Petit in Paris, took over the studio circa 1882, which was then called "Tairraz Alpine Photographic Studio". The studio continued throughout the 20th century. – Some faded, some light surface scuffing, some with retouched spots, otherwise in good to very good condition.

Sample album of various Agfa-Gevaert photographic papers. 1950s. 48 vintage gelatin silver prints (most ferrotyped) on Agfa-Brovira, Grandamo, Scenario, Portriga-Rapid, Syntobrom, Verda, Record and Lupex papers. Various sizes between circa 17,5 x 14 cm. Each with left and lower white margin with paper type in lower margin, bound with punch holes in left side in original plastic binder.

Agfa-Gevaert used the negatives of many well-known German photographers such as Peter Keetman, Herbert List, Alfred Ehrhardt to demonstrate the various photo paper qualities the firm produced. An attractive collection showing the subtle differences in photo paper available at the time. – Photos in very good condition.

View of the spectacular interior of the Barcelona Pavilion with the free-standing stone wall of onyx doré on a wide travertine floor and the diaphanous room separators. Mies van der Rohe's spatial concept is particularly evident in this view. One recognizes the simplicity and clarity of the layout and the interaction of the exquisite materials. A rare documentation of this extremely modern, streamlined design by Mies van der Rohe. The structure was van der Rohe's first major work, which was unfortunately torn down after the exhibition. – Corners slightly bumped, retouched spot in upper left, light indentation mark in upper right, otherwise a fine tonal print in very good condition (not examined outside frame).

With the appointment of Martin Wagner as Berlin's city architect (Stadtbaurat) in 1926, a new spirit of innovation emerged in the redesigning of Berlin. This particularily concerned a newly adapted traffic planning, as well as the design of some prominent Berlin squares, such as Alexanderplatz shown in this example, based on the ideas of the Bauhaus. Architects such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, Hans Scharoun and Hugo Häring were called upon for these building projects. – Minimal crease mark in upper right, otherwise in very good condition (not examined outside frame).

Jean-Marie Auradon became well known for his large-scale nudes, which he often posed like classical sculptures. He exhibited his work in 1930 and 1936 at the Salon International D'Art Photographique de Paris. He also belonged to the French 'Group XV' which included such well-known photographers as Robert Doisneau and Willy Ronis. The group existed between 1946-1956 and sought to promote French photography by organizing frequent exhibitions while stressing the importance of technique and quality in photographic prints. – Minimal surface scuffing/rubbing, more visible at an angle, otherwise in very good condition.

American-born trapeze artist Vander Clyde, who later called himself Barbette, performed in the circus dressed as a woman, among other things. Later, in the 1920s, he traveled through Europe and had great success especially with his travesty shows. He was friends with many artists and the many famous photographers (e.g. Man Ray, d'Ora Benda, Willinger, Walery and others) portrayed him. – Small crease in lower edge, corners minimally bumped, minimal silver mirroring in edges, only visible at an angle, otherwise a fine tonal print in very good condition.
