500€ (US$ 521)
"Mingo Junction # 2277"; "Michigan Central Station # 436", from the series "Disturbia" - Detroit. 2012/ 2013/printed 2014. 2 chromogenic prints on Fujicolor Crystal Archive paper. Each circa 39,5 x 49,5 cm (36 x 46 cm). Signed and dated by the photographer in ink on the verso. From an edition by Griffelkunst-Vereinigung Hamburg e.V.
Jörn Vanhöfen's photographs address the absence of man, or his withdrawal from places that have become too inhospitable to live in. For the series "Aftermath", Vanhöfen photographed places around the world that have become self-destructing as a result of their maximum exploitation by the expansion society. Sober and at the same time apocalyptic, the individual photographs combine construction and environmental sins into an overall picture. In places as diverse as Bangkok, Cape Town, Chicago, Berlin and Duisburg, the dark sides of progress can be found, which the photographer tracks down and captures in monumental tableaus. One of his later series, "Disturbia", is dedicated to Detroit, which for decades was a symbol of the upswing brought about by the American auto industry. Due to the many empty houses, entire neighborhoods have become ghost towns, and is now one of the most dangerous cities in the USA. – In excellent condition.
