Traces of light surface rubbing/scuffing, small spot in upper right, otherwise a rich violet-brown print in very good condition.

Costume portraits of singers and actors of the Bayreuth Festival. 1899 - 1902. 15 albumen prints and 1 gelatin silver print, mounted to cabinet studio mounts and 1 mounted to card. Each circa 15 x 10,7 cm. Some with date blindstamp in lower corners, some annotated in ink on mount recto/verso.

The actors/singers include: Marie Witlich-Kundry, Alois Burgstaller, Erich Schmedes, Grüning, Beckmann, Friedrichs, Breuer, Rosa Sucher, Carl Peeron and others. Also includes a portrait from 1891 by Loescher & Petsch of Hedwig Reicher-Kindermann as Brünhilde, as well as a larger signed and dedicated gelatin silver print of Heinrich Knote 1928. – Some surface scuff marks, otherwise strong prints in good condition.

F. Boissonnas showed a selection of his images from his Swiss series at the World's Fair in 1900 in Paris for which he won a Gold Medal. The group also includes two small images of Greece. – In very good condiiton.

This group includes a rare group of four photographs which document the heavy earthquake on the island of Chios, Greece in 1881. – Some surface scuff/scratch marks, most with a rich dark brown tone and in very good condition.

German-Danish War. 1864. Salt print. 17,5 x 21 cm. Mounted to original board (slightly soiled in edges, slightly warped), with photographer's blindstamp and contemporary annotation: "Zerschossenes Blockhaus in Schanze Nr. 4 mit einer Gruppe von Preußischen und Österreichischen Soldaten und Offizieren" in pencil below the image on the mount.

This rare and well-preserved photograph shows a group of officers and soldiers at the destroyed trenches (Düppler Schanzen) around the village Düppel. Like Roger Fenton and Matthew Brady, the photographer C.F. Brandt was confronted with a similar situation when photographing war; photographs could only be taken after the fighting had ended because exposure times were still long. Brandt was an experienced photographer and he participated in the International Photography Exhibition in Berlin in 1865 and was awarded a medal for his exceptional landscapes. – A few light spots in upper edge, otherwise a strong print in very good condition.

(Attributed to). Panorama of Fort Takka and valley, Afghanistan during the Second Anglo-Afghan War. 1878 - 1881. 4-part panorama, albumen prints. 21,3 x 113 cm. Mounted to board, annotated in German in ink below the image on the mount.

Together with William Baker, the Irishman John Burke documented the Second Anglo-Afghan War between 1878 - 1880. The team worked under extreme conditions, carrying fragile glass plates and mixing chemicals at high altitudes and extreme temperatures. This image shows the old Afghan Fort Takka occupied by the British troops during the Second Anglo-Afghan War 1878 - 1881. A rare document of a country still in turmoil today. – Slightly faded in edges, some soil marks in upper left, glued tear in left edge, otherwise in good condition.

This group includes a panoramic view of a deployment of the British cavalry and artillery in a vast Afghan valley, British military camps during the war and Indian auxiliary troops transporting ammunition crates and other materials. – Slightly dusty, one print with ink spot in upper area, some light surface scuff marks, otherwise in very good condition.
